a rough wooing

The story revolvesaround Henry VIII's wish to marry off his son Edward to Mary, Queen of Scots which does not please the Scots or Mary's mother, Marie de Guise. An attempt to kidnap Mary by sending troops to Scotland results in a long siege in Haddington. The siege ends when 1000 men in the English garrison die from the effects of plague, while Mary is smuggled away to France.
